Anxiety is a term often used to describe a number of different, but related, problems. We are specialists in most types of anxiety, including:
- Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Generalized Anxiety Disorder
- Social Anxiety
- Panic Attacks
- Agoraphobia
- Phobias
- Separation Anxiety
We use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to identify the anxiety cycle you're experiencing, and use evidence-based therapy to create a treatment plan that gets you relief.
Our clients with anxiety often report feeling better quickly, once they have begun to engage in the CBT treatment we agree upon.
Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Individuals with OCD often have significant difficulty pushing away or ignoring intrusive thoughts. They often get stuck in circular thought patterns and engage in related compulsions, or behaviors, to attempt to decrease anxiety associated with these thought cycles.
OCD is a disorder which, while similar to anxiety, is its own classification and responds to a very particular treatment, called Exposure and Response Prevention, or ERP. If you or a loved one is experiencing OCD, ERP is the gold standard treatment and it is highly recommended for successful treatment of OCD.
OCD is often presented in very specific ways in the media. However, there are many other presentations of OCD which many people have never heard of. This may include:
- Intrusive thoughts or images
- Observable compulsions to attempt to neutralize the intrusive thought
- Exploring the content of the intrusive thought or image, and spending excessive time doing so
- Constant checking or double-checking
- Mental reviewing
- Searching for the "right" answer in your mind
- Hoarding
- Thoughts that you might be harmed
- Thoughts that you might cause others harm
We have extensive training in helping patients conquer their OCD. We are trained in ERP and include families or significant others in treatment, as needed. If you think you may have OCD, please reach out. We are here to help.
