While she has experience treating a wide range of problems, Dr. Atallah is a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) expert, and has particular specialties in perinatal mental health (pregnancy through postpartum for parents of all genders), obsessive-compulsive disorder, or OCD (using ERP, or exposure and response prevention, which is the gold standard treatment for OCD), anxiety disorders (health anxiety, social anxiety, panic disorder, generalized anxiety, phobias, etc), school refusal, depression, anger, stress management, and difficult life transitions. Dr. Atallah provides therapy to children, teens, adults, and older adults.
Dr. Atallah uses a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) treatment model, which is a well-researched, effective type of therapy for many disorders. She helps her patients to identify goals develop coping skills, establish hope, and feel empowered. Dr. Atallah approaches treatment as a collaborative process, with an open, non-judgmental style. She strives to be direct and transparent with her patients, working together with them as partners in the treatment process. Dr. Atallah believes that building a strong therapeutic relationship with her patients is a critical foundation for future change. She truly appreciates the effort and bravery her patients display in seeking treatment, and she enjoys helping her patients create happier, more fulfilling lives.
Dr. Atallah currently remains actively involved in the community and engages in regular professional development and consultation. Dr. Atallah is certified by the Academy of Behavioral and Cognitive Therapy (A-BCT) as a Diplomate. A-BCT is one of the only certifying organizations that evaluates clinician's skills in CBT and awards certification based on performance and knowledge. Dr. Atallah is in the process of obtaining her certification in perinatal mental health through Postpartum Support International. She is also involved in the Orange County Psychological Association, and was the President of OCPA in 2016.
Dr. Atallah received her doctoral degree from the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant International University in San Francisco. This is important because APA accreditation is awarded only to programs which meet a high standard of training. Dr. Atallah’s experience has been comprehensive, and included working at a VA hospital in the PTSD clinical team; working with individuals with brain injuries; working with veterans with substance use disorders; working in outpatient mental health clinics; working with teens in school-based setting; and working with individuals in substance use recovery.
